The Department of General Surgery at Health Sciences North (HSN) provides essential surgical services from cancer care to trauma to lumps & bumps to the people of Northeastern Ontario and beyond. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​

​Our surgeons are certified members of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and each have unique training in various sub-specialties and disciplines including colorectal, breast, bariatrics, endocrine and hepatopancreatobiliary.

 

Many members are involved with teaching medical students and residents from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM). We have produced many outstanding surgeons who have gone on to community practices or pursued advanced training in Fellowship programs across North America.

As we look towards the future, our mandate is to continue the enhancement of our department by the recruitment of new talent and by the acquisition of cutting-edge technology including robotics and artificial intelligence to provide the best possible care to all of our patients.
